A little way up the road from Austin, Texas you’ll find the town of Liberty Hill. Liberty Hill is only a 40- to 45-minute drive from Austin via Route 183A and US-183 S, so it’s still part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area, and it’s one of the best-kept secrets in the region.
Located near Georgetown, Austin, and Round Rock, Liberty Hill is a perfect little town for those looking for a relaxing and peaceful place to visit on a weekend or an out-of-the-way dining spot some evening. It’s a great place to live too, and we should know because Santa Rita Ranch has been building new homes in Liberty Hill for years! Since we’re locals, we know all of the best places to eat, drink, and be merry around these parts, and we’ve assembled some of our favorite fun things to do in Liberty Hill TX along with some great places to eat while you’re in the area.
Liberty Hill Sculpture Park
In 1976, 25 sculptors from six different countries came to the small town of Liberty Hill for the International Sculpture Symposium. For two months, they lived and worked in our little community, and when they were done, they left behind 27 unique works of art that now make up the Liberty Hill Sculpture Park. The park is free to visit, and it can be accessed through either the Louine Noble Elementary School or the Lions Foundation Park on Loop 332.
Blue Hole Park
Just off Georgetown’s historic downtown square, Blue Hole Park is the perfect place to cool off, go for a swim, enjoy the views of the scenic limestone bluffs that line the lagoon, or even reel in a fish or two. You’ll find plenty of things to do in this beautiful and fun watering hole along the San Gabriel River, including dining and shops nearby. The address is easy to remember, too. The park entrance is at 100 Blue Hole Park in Georgetown.
Indian Mound Ranch
For those who want a taste of history, there may be no better place to stop over in Liberty Hill than the Indian Mound Ranch. Not only is it one of the oldest ranches in the area, it’s also one of the last surviving “Texas Century Ranches,” a title reserved for ranches that have been in continuous operation by the same family for more than 100 years. Indian Mound hosts everything from market days to community garage sales, so there’s always something to do at this historic and picturesque ranch. You can find the Indian Mound Ranch where it has been for the last 150 years at 12805 TX-29 in Liberty Hill.
Working up an appetite already?
Liberty Hill has great dining options as well, and many places offer so much more than just lunch and dinner. No list of things to do in Liberty Hill TX would be complete without a mention of a few of our favorite places to recharge and get some vittles, so here are some of our top recommendations for Liberty Hill TX restaurants.
The Dahlia Café
You really can’t go wrong with this local fave, which specializes in “dressed-up country cooking from scratch” and features live music most weekend nights! By the way, the chicken-fried steak or porter house pork chop are both so good! The Dahlia Café is currently offering indoor and outdoor dining, in addition to curbside to go. It’s a great place to hang, and you’ll definitely come away with a full belly, so check it out with friends and family! You can find Dahlia Café at 2450 Ranch Road 1869 in Liberty Hill.
Malted Grains
This is a grab-and-go specialty market that also provides a lunch grill menu as well as a great selection of wines and beers. Too busy to cook? We love that Malted Grains offers chef-prepared meals and snacks packaged and ready to go. The bakery on Saturdays offers homemade kolaches, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. So much yum! You can find Malted Grains at 1004 TX-332 Loop in Liberty Hill.
Main Street Social
The recently opened “food hall” is a place where friends and family members can gather to enjoy great food, play games, and connect. We love this idea! Food options come from a carefully curated selection of local food vendors offering a variety of dining choices including pizza, burgers, fried chicken, ice cream, and more. There’s something for everyone, for sure. After you eat you can play games! Just outside, Main Street Social offers cornhole, horseshoes, and a playscape for the kiddos. The indoor arcade features such faves as Skee Ball, Pac-Man, Galaga, and NBA Jam. You can find Main Street Social at 1651 Loop 332 (between SH 29 and RR 1869) in Liberty Hill.
Thirsty Mule Winery
If all this talk of great food is making you a bit thirsty (and you’re over 21 years of age), you can head over to a great local vineyard right here in Liberty Hill. Why drink wine at home when you can drink wine underground? Sound intriguing? Thirsty Mule features exclusive wines made and produced from Texas and California grapes, available to sample at the only underground wine-tasting bar in Texas. You can find the Thirsty Mule Winery & Vineyard at 101 Co Rd 257 in Liberty Hill.
San Gabriel River Brewery
If you’re more of a beer afficionado than a wine drinker, try a pint of the next generation of craft beer in Texas at the San Gabriel River Brewery. San Gabriel serves pints, tastings, and growler fills in its tap room. You can find it at 500 Chaparral Dr in Liberty Hill.
