Plan Your Valentine’s Day Getaway With These Things to Do in Fredericksburg

Want to add that extra dose of romance to your Valentine’s Day? Think outside the box and plan a weekend stay in what CNN calls one of the six most romantic towns in the US. There is  a long list of fun and exciting things to do in Fredericksburg but these few are better spent with your significant other.

Travel the 2015 Wine Lovers Trail

Get lost in Texas Wine Country this Valentine’s Day. The Wine Lovers Trial takes place February 6-22, and for just $60 per couple you’ll receive daily access to 4 of 42 total wineries, also included is a souvenir passport book that’s your ticket for the event and a local box of chocolates created exclusively for tour participants. The wineries’ website suggests taking your time and enjoying tasting the local grapes in the middle of pristine scenery. This should be at the top of your list of things to do in Fredericksburg.

Insider Tip: Buy your tickets as soon as you can. The event lasts through February 22nd, but tickets are typically sold out by Valentine’s Day.

Book a Romantic Bed and Breakfast

Fredericksburg is home to over 400 Bed and Breakfasts, Guesthouses and Inns. Each has its own unique mix of romantic feel and Hill Country charm. When you are choosing a place to stay check out the Barons Creekside Inn, it looks rustic but is only two minutes from Main Street. It isn’t lacking in luxury accommodations; if you feel like staying in when you arrive, pre-book an in-cabin romantic dinner or a massage. If you prefer accommodations more in the style of a hotel, take a look at the All Season Downtown Retreat. It is an equal mix between hotel and B&B, featuring a pool and hot tub that’s just a short walk from your door.

Insider tip: if you travel Sunday through Thursday you can save on accommodations, but be sure to book in advance because things fill up quickly, especially around Valentine’s Day.

Try the Specialty Chocolates and Pastries

The perfect addition to any romantic weekend is speciality treats. Add Fredericksburg’s multitude of sweet shops to your list of things to do during your romantic getaway. If you love chocolate, try Chocolat, a city staple that sits right on Main Street. Not only will you love their array of nut clusters, barks, and caramel, they boast a seasonal chocolate that is filled with sipping tequila. If chocolate is not your favorite, try the Fredericksburg Pie Company. Their specialty is an orange bourbon pecan pie that’s been written up in Taste of Home magazine. Enjoy your slice there or take an entire pie home with you.

Insider tip: Most individual Bed and Breakfast owners will take care of special arrangements for you. Also, check with reservations services where you booked your lodging, many places will include these additions at an inclusive price.
