One of the best things about living in the Texas Hill Country is the great weather and the surplus of restaurants offering outside dining. Many of these patio restaurants are independent and offer a truly authentic experience that can only be found in Central Texas. Check out our favorite outdoor dining experiences that you can find just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Santa Rita Ranch:

  • Salt Lick BBQ
  • Verdes
  • Hudson’s on the Bend

Salt Lick BBQ

The BBQ here is incredible. The open smoking pit right inside the door makes for an authentic dining experience, while guests can take in the smell of their meal. With sausages hanging over the pit, briskets, ribs and turkey on the grill, this Hill Country institution is as picturesque as it is tasty.

Only “warning”…if you want to imbibe on some adult beverages, you need to bring them with you, as The Salt Lick is BYOB.

This newcomer opened in 2008 and almost immediately became a local favorite to the area. They specialize in grilled Mexican tastes, such as the bacon-wrapped quail. The back patio is popular with locals. The casual-covered patio has a large grass area to cater to families, where kids can play while mom and dad have a drink.

Hudson’s on the Bend

Hudson’s on the Bend offers an exceptional outdoor dining experience. The menu features locally produced meats, fish, fruit, and vegetables, as well as “game” like boar and venison.

The patio is covered, which is good for year-round weather, and next door is an herb garden. In this herb garden, the proprietors grow their own ingredients. This restaurant is frequented by many locals, visitors, as well as famous people!
