Yes, Thanksgiving is mostly a day that revolves around food: Grandma’s turkey, Mom’s green bean casserole, and your Aunts famous pumpkin pie. But, a “cornucopia” of food, parties, and events can keep our mind off getting active or giving back during the Thanksgiving holiday.
This year, we challenge you to make the most out of this holiday by getting active and giving back at these local Thanksgiving events:
Georgetown Turkey Trot
The Georgetown Running Club and Sertoma are putting on the Georgetown Turkey Trot this year. Grab your family, friends, and neighbors and run on the roads and trails of Georgetown for this fun and active event! The race finishes in the beautiful downtown Georgetown on the square. The race will feature an untimed 5 mile run/walk and 1 mile walk, activity booths, prizes, and tons of fun! This is a perfect event for the whole family and an annual Thanksgiving tradition. Get out there and run your turkey feathers off!
HEB Feast of Sharing
Keep Austin full this year by volunteering at the HEB Feast of Sharing! This annual event provides dinner to 14,000 residents in the Central Texas area — the largest community Thanksgiving meal in Austin! On November 24, head over to the Palmer Event Center in Austin to volunteer your time and give back to those during this giving holiday. For sign ups and more information, click here.
ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot
This Thanksgiving marks the 25th anniversary of the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot! Come participate in the 5-mile family fun run or the 1-mile walk as this is one of the largest races in Texas. This tour of downtown Austin is a great opportunity to spend time with family this holiday, all while getting some fresh air and burning off those extra Thanksgiving meal calories!
There are so many great ways to get active and give back in our community. Take advantage of the area we live in and enjoy this holiday to the fullest!
